We take pride in the care and services we offer our patients. If you have been our patient previously, you are familiar with the thoroughness of our eye exams and services, but for our newer patients, or those who have been diagnosed with a medical diagnosis that can affect your eyes, are taking a medication that can affect your eyes, or just have questions about services and insurance, we would like to elaborate on the care you can expect from our office and how your services might be billed.
Your annual eye examination will include a review of medical/vision history, visual acuities, color vision testing, depth perception and eye movement. We will determine your prescription for glasses (Refraction). We will test how your pupils react to light, which assesses nerve function and tests your eye movement or motility to ensure your eyes are moving and working together and tracking objects properly. We will perform a slit lamp examination (a specialized microscope that provides high magnification), looking at the front of each of your eyes including the lids, cornea, iris and lens. We will check the fluid pressure inside of your eyes to check for signs of glaucoma, and we will perform a retinal examination, taking a photo of the back of your eye (Fundus Photo), dilating your eyes when needed. When your visit is a routine vision exam, (strictly vision diagnoses, no medical issues or diagnoses at this visit or billable to your vision plan), your out of pocket will be any required co-payments and the fee for fundus photo screening. If we find and diagnose a medical issue, if you are returning for an examination or a visit to monitor for any medical diagnosis or if you have a medical diagnosis from another doctor that requires monitoring (ie diabetes or medication concerns), your medical examination will be billed to your medical insurance with proper diagnoses and a letter will be sent to your pcp when appropriate. The refraction portion of the examination may not be covered dependent on your plan. Photos will only be billable to your medical insurance with a medical diagnosis. Since medical insurance plans can vary on coverage, please feel free to ask if you have any questions about what we are able to bill.

We do see many of our patients 1-3 times per year to follow up on medical diagnoses (ie glaucoma, macular degeneration, etc) These are medical visits billed to your medical insurance, if we are providers with your plan and have authorizations if needed. At these visits, tests appropriate for your diagnosis and billable to your insurance will be the only tests we would perform. Exceptions would be if you came in with an issue unrelated to this visit. Any emergent or urgent visit would be considered a medical visit and would be billed to your medical insurance. If we are not providers with your insurance plan, your visit will be out of pocket. We will be happy to provide you with paperwork to submit for reimbursement or if possible, submit your claim to your plan for reimbursement to you.
Contact lens wearers will have Corneal Topography (mapping of the cornea) each year at their examination and either a fitting (for new wearers or a change in type of contact lenses) or contact lens services. Contact lenses, fittings and services are vision services/materials. Each vision plan that we accept as providers is different and may offer discounts or allowances towards contact lenses or services. Please contact our office with any questions as to your coverage. Corneal Topography is not a covered service.
We follow national guidelines by the American Optometric Association, for all eye examinations and medical related visits to our office.
We offer quality eyecare services and products and we care about our patients, the services we provide and the products we offer. If a new prescription (glasses or contact lenses), requires any adjustment, we ask that you call our office for an appointment so that we can verify the prescription and make any changes required within 60 days of picking up your new eyewear.
While we offer frames ranging from $150-$670, lens pricing will vary with the type of prescription you require. Our opticians will review your prescription and make recommendations on what might best fit your comfort and needs. Our selection spans from budget to best and we will be able to help you find something that will fit and meet style and your needs. If you have any questions, we will be happy to go over options and copayments provided by your insurance plan.
